Elí Márquez is an emerging artist from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
Eli Márquez was born on May 30, 1995 in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. His first approaches to art occurred when he was very small, influenced by the drawings of his grandfather and his mother’s watercolors, since he was a child he experienced a sensation of healing when he downloaded what he could not otherwise have, an experience that still remains today the impulse that accompanies the realization of his paintings. As a child he was sure that he would not live without painting.
At the age of twelve he began a formal artistic instruction by attending workshops in which he acquired skills and knowledge that would allow him to start a long and contradictory path. With some techniques such as charcoal, watercolors and pastel gems, it was how he began to immerse himself in the different techniques of the pictorial, was molding his tastes and concerns, which allowed him to build his own style, but a style in permanent development and experimentation.
At the age of sixteen and after a few years of experimentation and practice, he was able to develop other skills that brought him closer to painting with another focus, from the reflection of his surroundings and his interior, his painting became more conceptual. After experimenting with various materials, he adopted oil as his favorite material to shape most of the works he has done.

On the series “Transción”: Life itself is a continuous change, a latent and present change. This change is what leads us to reflect on time and how it passes and weighs. It modifies, sometimes, subtly and sometimes as a radical and cruel dictator. Things change, changing, many times for good and others for bad, but there is always an apprenticeship. One day we find ourselves in a place with certain people and soon we are in another situation in another place, living another moment with other people. What we thought yesterday has been transformed into something more concrete or simply something completely irrelevant. The transition is a change, is to move from one state to another, from one thought to another. Who wanted to be, who I am, what does not change, what I changed, that is my transition.
The paintings of these series is composed of images, some outside of me common, others the everyday happens an remains the collective. It is a reinterpretation of time and change, of what is changed inside and what is changed abroad, of self-knowledge, of past and present, of the movement of life.
The transition can also be reflected in the technical process of each of the pieces and in the change of shapes, now geometric and human figures are the central axis.
In some of the pieces I went for freer strokes and a palette of colors with clear dark and cool warm contrasts, others with backgrounds with solid colors and slight appearances of light. This work outside of being the production of two years is the report of my career, it is a continuous analysis, without a doubt an analysis that will not find its end.
